Barge In, Whisper and Listen
The PBX Blue phone system allows you to barge in, whisper to someone or listen in on a call. These can be useful if you are providing training or monitoring another staff member.
Your extension must have the correct rights in order to use these features. If you would like these features enabled on your extension, please seek the necessary approvals, then contact the Private Universe Helpdesk.
What do these features allow you to do?
Function | Description |
---|---|
Barge In | Allows you to join a call that you are not part of. The other parties on the call will not know that you have joined the call until you speak. |
Listen | Allows you to listen to a call that you are not part of. The other parties on the call will not know that you have joined the call. You cannot speak to the other parties on the call. |
Whisper | Allows you to speak to an individual on a call you are not part of without interrupting their call. |
How to use these features
The way you access these features is dependent on the way you are using the phone system.
3CX Windows Application

Enter the switchboard by clicking the icon at the bottom right.

Change your view from the default 'User' view to one of the other views of your choice.

Right click on a call that you have the permission to barge/listen/whisper and perform the desired action.
3CX Web Client

Sign in to the 3CX web client. These details will be in the PBX Blue welcome email you received.

Click on the switchboard tab.

Physical Handset
You must use the 3CX Windows application or 3CX Web Client on your computer (as described above) to start the barge in, listen or whisper features. You can then use the physical handset to talk and listen.
If you are using the 3CX Windows application, it must be in CTI mode.
If you are using the 3CX Web Client, you should select your physical handset in the menu in the top-right corner.
3CX macOS Application
The macOS 3CX application is no longer supported or maintained by 3CX. You need to use the web client to perform this functionality.
